Manning Centre on Municipal Cost Savings

The Manning Centre, a conservative think-tank based in Calgary and founded by Preston Manning has released a crowd-sourced report highlighting ideas from municipalities across Canada on reducing costs. The report challenges municipalities to become more efficient before opting for new “revenue tools.”

One of the most noteworthy cost-savings example comes from Fredericton, NB (a city 1/10th the size of Brampton) that saved $20,000 by adopting an anti-idling policy for their bus fleet. 200 ideas from 75 municipalities are listed in the report. The City of Brampton does not have any cost-savings initiatives listed in the report.
