Neighbourhood Watch Re-Launching in Brampton

Residents across Brampton have commented on a noticeable decline in community safety over the last few years. As a result, Brampton Focus consulted with community groups and stakeholders across the GTA and we all agree that Neighbourhood Watch needs to return to our city.

Today, we are announcing the launch of Neighbourhood Watch Brampton. Brampton Focus has developed a new program to respond to the needs of residents and to work in full co-operation with Peel Regional Police and community stakeholders.

Neighbourhood Watch is an effective community safety program that relies on neighbors getting to know each other. The program is straight forward to implement and works in co-operation with local police. Communities and police groups across North America implement the program in many ways. The new program in Brampton is being modeled after the highly regarded Neighbourhood Watch program in Mississauga. We are also adopting Mississauga’s inclusion of a Residential CPTED Safety Audit that occurs in the start-up phase of every Watch community.

We are also excited to be working with a number of vibrant neighbourhoods across the city to support their ongoing efforts for a safer community and to pilot the new program. Members of the community who are interested in learning more are invited to register for an upcoming community meeting.

The formal launch of the program is being planned for March. Residents across the city are invited to indicate their interest in establishing their own Neighbourhood Watch. We will follow-up with additional information and proactively support residents so that Brampton is the community safety role model for cities across Canada.
